Meet The Company

Old Johannesburg Warehouse Auctioneers is one of South Africa’s leading Antiques, Fine Art & Collectables auction houses. It has an excellent reputation for its ability to achieve record prices for consignment sellers, and for its wide array of quality auction lots offered to a discerning group of local and international collectors, investors, interior decorators and dealers alike, with very competitive commission structures for both sellers and buyers.

 

The auction house is owner-managed by Christiaan Scholtz. Christiaan is ably assisted by a team of twelve auction, art and antiques specialists, and eleven warehouse staff. Collectively, the team of specialists has well over 100 years experience in fields as varied as General Antiques, Fine Art, Jewellery, Period Furniture, Mid Century Designer Furniture, Silver & Gold Coins, Collectables, Africana, Militaria, Ceramics & Porcelain, Silver & Gold, Bronzes & Sculptures, Rare Books and Maps, Coins, Carpets, Classic Cars & Motorcycles, Vintage Toys, Light Fittings, Photography, Retro and Designer items, Automobilia, Tools, Industrial Antiques, Advertising and Signage Memorabilia, Watches, Gemstones, Novelty items and Antiquities, as well as Glass and Crystal.

Meet The Team

Christiaan Scholtz

Christiaan, former Springbok and 1995 Rugby World Cup member, also previous owner of the landmark Antique shop "Die Ossewa" in Melville Johannesburg from 1994 - 2015, now dedicates himself full-time to Old Johannesburg Warehouse Auctioneers.

Christiaan brings a wealth of experience to the Art, Antiques and Collectables world. Over the last 20 years he has built up extensive knowledge, trading in various countries, building a large database of clients, dealers, interior designers and collectors in South Africa as well as the rest of the world. His first love is Africana and Antique Furniture but he has developed an eye for Retro and Design Furniture as well.

Imre Lamprecht

Imre studied Fine Art & Psychology at the University of Pretoria, specializing in Artwork. She has more than 10 years experience in the Auctioneering world, previously heading up the Art Department at Stephan Welz and Co. and has acquired extensive knowledge on South African art.

What you might not know, is that Imre is the author and main driving force behind most of the company's marketing, articles, press releases and newspapers advertorials.

Imre is also a skilled auctioneer - she first took to the podium in 2008 and has been banging her gavel ever since, much to the delight of many happy buyers!

Shona Robie

Shona has a passion for Decorative Arts and Ceramics, with over 20 years experience in the industry her knowledge and expertise is utilized in the lotting and cataloging of items.

You can find Shona in the warehouse combing through the hundreds of lots prepping them for auction and you would also likely chat with her for your telephone commission bids.

Marcelle Sneddon

Marcelle, who previously worked in the Restaurant and Hospitality industries as well as for renowned restorer Leighton-Morris Antiques, is also a qualified Wine Specialist. Her passion for interior decorating and antiques & collectables has driven her into this vocation. 

Marcelle is responsible for the daily intake, reception, administration, delivery and collection schedules at the Warehouse. Besides that, you will also speak to her when you're putting in telephone bids for our auctions!

Ayesha Kathrada

Ayesha was with Associated Art & Antiques in Houghton and Parkhurst from 1996 to 2014. She traded in Art, Silver, Jewellery, Glass, Crystal & General Antiques but her first love is Silver and Jewellery!

Ayesha is well-known and respected in the industry for her integrity and attention to detail.

Lesego Modise

Nickey Liebenburg

Lesego has 7 years auction house experience with Stephan Welz in logistics, administration and accounting he will ensure a smooth and safe process for items coming and going.

You will find Lesego in the warehouse arranging packages for transport and also chat with him of the phones for your telephone commission bids.

Nickey is the newest member of our team, coming out of Nelson Mandela Municipality University with her Bachelor of Technology and National Diploma in Fine Art she is well suited for her roll her as art cataloger and junior Art Specialist.

You can find Nickey here at the warehouse cataloguing artworks and assisting with art intakes and valuations. She will also be making the telephone bid calls during auctions.

Chris van der Westhuizen

Chris has extensive experience in and outside of South Africa in logistics, interior and exterior decorating as well as Customer Relations, and has had a live-long interest in all things beautiful and precious.

 

Not only will you see him in action in the auction rooms setting up and staging the many hundreds of items up for auction every month, but you're also likely to speak to him when registering for our auctions, or on the phone if you are bidding on auction lots telephonically, and he is also in charge of the packing and handling of our precious auction lots for local and international deliveries

Ryno Smit

Ryno is the youngest member of our team, and brings not only youth and energy to the auctions and daily operations, but he has also become our very own in-house photographer extra-ordinaire!

Many of the stunning auction imagery you will see online, on our big-screen and in our print catalogues originated in front of his lens and with his keen eye for detail this has earned him many compliments from customers and suppliers.

On auction days, you'll see him in action on the phones and on the registration desk.

Le Roux Hennop

Le Roux has a bachelors degree in fine arts, majoring in painting, this fine eye for detail was put to work in two interesting fields, facial recognition for the SAPS and his love for tattoos!

You can find Le Roux in the warehouse cataloguing various lots of classic, vintage and retro items, including toys and vehicles. You could also find him taking telephone bids & commission bids.

Adrian v.d. Walt

Adrian comes from a fine arts, graphic design and photography background. He taught photography at the Creativity Centre of the North-West University, Potchefstroom campus where he also served as curator of university's art gallery and managing the institution's extensive and valuable
permanent colletion.

 

He later on went into the diamond industry where he worked for almost 10 years. During this time he completed a certificate course at the De Beers Group Institute of Diamonds and had a diamond sales office in Franshhoek. His experience and love for all things aesthetic and shiny makes him a
perfect fit as part of the Old Johannesburg Warehouse Auctioneers team.

Victor Ramalatso and our other 10 staff members have been with us for many years and are all experienced in their individual fields and tasks around the Auction Room and Warehouse.

 

We also make use of numerous outside Consultants and Experts in various fields to provide as accurate valuations and descriptions as possible on items consigned to us.
